There are cities in the world I've visited where I felt inspired. Some by the architecture, and others by their rich history. And the people and cuisine, easily an afterthought but they are the heart and soul of a city - inspiration still no doubt. For me, style is my inspiration.
Having visited Italy this past year for Pitti Uomo 89, I was inspired by the style I encountered. I fell in love with Milan for its fashion centric attitude, and Florence stole my breath away. The style portrayed by the many gentlemen was euphoric, giving me jitters. Perfected, that was how I described it and its what I aspire to now. There is one story I'd like to share, about a man I met in passing. I was at the Rubinacci atelier in Milano attempting to steal a minute of Luca's time but he was occupied. As I left the atelier to return back later, an older gentleman in a stunning charcoal flannel suit passed right in front of me, cigarette in hand and overcoat draped over his shoulder. Timeless elegance and truly inspirational - it was a pleasure to have met you Mr. Alessandro Squarzi.
This time around, I was unable to make it for Pitti 90 but a friend (and phenomenal photographer) managed to capture a visual story for Casa di Sartoria. Florence, you always manage to inspire - and steal my breath away.
